If you're currently feeling at rock bottom, or have had the unfortunate experience of being in that position, we can all agree that it sucks.. bad. It hurts, it's frustrating, and it feels hopeless.

Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)

When I say rock bottom, I'm talking about the, WTF am I doing with my life, rock bottom! The clueless, confused, numbed and shameful rock bottom when nothing in your life is going as you hoped it would. You have no idea what to do with yourself. Everyone around you seems to just have everything under control, and look so good doing whatever they are doing. You have nothing to be proud of, nothing to keep you motivated. And you just end up with these 'what happened to me' type of thoughts that consume your pathetic life. It is your 'All by myself, Bridget Jones' moment in life and you just don't know what to do.

If you've experienced this, or you are experiencing this, or have yet to experience this; as horrifying as it sounds, it may just be the best damn thing that the universe can do to you! It may be emotionally draining in every possible way, but still, it is literally the best thing that can happen to you.

Don't believe me? Here's why!

1. Rock Bottom means a Clean slate.

We have found ourselves giving the term 'rock bottom' a negative connotation due to the emotions we feel when we experience this. And that's the completely foolish way to see it. To be at rock bottom of your life means you have nothing to lose. You can literally do anything you want to do, any way you want to do it, and it'll be a step in the right direction. As long as you are changing your routine and making a difference in your life, you are improving. Rock bottom is the perfect opportunity to become exactly who you want to be!

2. Rock Bottom will teach you A LOT.

Hitting rock bottom places you in a situation where you are at a stand still moment in life where a collection of negative events and experiences have lead you to despise your current situation. This moment is the perfect time to gain perspective! Think of every stupid, cringe-worthy mistake you've made that has lead you to this predicament, and think long and hard about how you'll never ever make the same mistakes again. Let yourself feel the regret in order to learn from it.

3. Rock Bottom makes you humble.

All the pain and regrets and 'what happened to me' thoughts, believe it or not, will eventually lead to deep contemplation about your life and how lucky you actually are compared to all those less-fortunate than you in this world. Hitting rock bottom will let you realize what you've lost, therefore will lead you to realize what you should appreciate in life. And that's just a wonderful thing!

Next time you feel the depths of hitting rock bottom in your career, your life and love, embrace every minute of it, because the universe just gave you a brand new chance.
